Should It Be Called “Subscribe To” or more like “Stalk Me”?
Facebook’s newest feature is in Beta, according to AllFacebook.com, and will allow users to personally opt-in to view every update made to a friend’s profile. At the moment, the News Stream allows you to view your friends’ updates and profile changes in a constant stream. However, quite a few updates do in fact slip through the cracks. By using this new feature, you can personally elect to view all changes made to the pages you selected.
Of course your friends can already view any type of comment, update, addition to your page that has been made (if your settings allow it), but they have to physically visit your page to do so. By allowing this application, that process is streamlined.
On the flip side, you will also be able to tell who has subscribed to watch your every move. I see this type of application as being beneficial for businesses, but I am not sure about personal pages. I guess time will tell on that one.
I also wonder if Facebook will give an option to deny someone who is opting to subscribe to your page. Yes, I know you may be thinking… “Wait, you friended them. Don’t you want them to see you?”
This is my theory: you may have friended someone for a variety of reasons, but you also know they have plenty of other people to keep up with. By streamlining the process, this could bump you up to the top of their list… I think that could possibly lead to some negative issues down the road.
Will any of you opt to allow your friends to view your every move?
